Does the 29160 have a connector for single-ended drives, or is it
LVD-only?

Adding an Internal Zip Drive to Beige G3

Hi!

In an attempt to help reduce the tangle of wires behind my Mac, I would
like to add an internal zip drive to my Beige G3 minitower & eliminate
my external zip drive. I’ve seen internal scsi zip drives for sale at
computer stores & at PC computer shows. Based upon what I know, I would
think that these would work in my G3. However when checking out a web
site that sells replacement face plates for Macs, the description for
the face plate makes reference to "Zip Insider". Is this a different
drive than what I’ve seen? Or, is it just another name for an internal
Zip drive? I did a quick check of the Iomega web site & couldn’t find a
reference.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Bob

5300 / 190 case cracking instructions needed

I’m looking to drop a new HD in my 5300 for more space.

I know I need a mini IDE drive, but don’t know how to crack the case and
find the HD.  Any instructions or pointers to a web site are greatly
appreciated.

best software to partition IDE HD

Adding a high capacity drive to my laptop.  I’ve always used
silverlining to partition SCSI drives, but the version I have won’t
recognize IDE.  Any suggestions?

My plan is
partition 1 = Mac OS, applications & data (balance of drive)
partition 2 = minimal Mac OS & soft windows 98 (750mb -> 1gb)
partition 3 = disk image of my street map CD (650mb)

Partition list and sizes look ok?  I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks

Toast Audio Extractor and 8x drive

Toast Audio Extractor (version 1.0) says my 8x drive cannot extract
audio tracks from CDs. I find this hard to believe (it is a Matsushita
CW-7503, which I think is a Panasonic drive). I had to update Toast to
use this drive, at first it said something similar, but the update did
not include a new version of the Audio Extractor, and I cannot find one
on the Adaptec site. Plus they require some kind of tech support
reference number to answer questions. My copy of Toast came bundled
with a previous drive, so I do not have any number to give them. Sigh.

Does anyone know if there is an updated version of TAE, and if so where
I can get it?

Thanks

Misbehaving Hard Drive

Some may recall my earlier post of a crashed hard drive that I wanted to
recover data off.  Suffice it to say, I didn’t have any luck and have
just now tried to reformat the drive.  The FWB toolkit wouldn’t do a
quick initialize because it found problems with the disk, so I tried a
complete format.  After several hours, and when it looked like it was
complete, an completely nondescript error message came up (Error SCSI:0
or something similar) and I had to force a reboot.  Now the FWB toolkit
doesn’t see the drive, nor does any other software I have.  Any clues?
Do I have any options other than writing off the potential 2 GB of
storage space?  =)

Thanks,
– Avi

Cobra Firewire HD really fast?

I saw this stuff:

http://www.ezq.com/fwhd.html

12-14MB/sec for Firewire drive, is this for real? I remember
some "other" similar drive gives only 3 or 5 MB/sec.

What gives?

problem – Imation SuperDisk and OS9

Have a new Imation SuperDisk and a new iMac DVD running OS9.  The computer
freezes up whenever I put a disk cartridge into the drive.  I get a message
that says the drive media may be damaged – check the log file.  At this
point I have to reboot the computer. I have tried several new SuperDisk
diskettes with the same results.  Anyone else having problems with OS 9 and
the SuperDisk or do I possible have a bad unit?

Re: Plextor PlexWriter 12/4/32

Hyper-Micro sells this drive in an external case but they don’t carry the
Toast 4.o or 4.1 or Toast Deluxe 4.0I and I haven’t heard from anyone
using the drive with a Mac. Like you I have heard good things about
Plextor (also a rumor about an even faster Plextor released in Europe.)
MacGurus sells the internal version of the drive.

Well, as long as you kept the spare drive in the same location as the
backups themselves, you wouldn’t have to worry.
